| 0

UK’s Home Office used the Investigatory Powers Act to demand that Apple create “back door” access for it into the company’s encrypted cloud services. Apple refused.

The IPA requires businesses to help law enforcement in obtain evidence. The Home Office wants access to the Advanced Data Protection service. It encrypts data uploaded to and stored on Apple servers.

The UK’s access demand applies to any user in the world. Apple says it will withdraw the targeted services rather than allow any government into it. The IPA attempts to apply UK demands to companies based in other countries that service users globally.
