Texas Signs New Gerrymandering into Law

| 0

Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) signed into law new, more heavily gerrymandered redistricting maps passed by Republicans in a special session of the legislature.

Redistricting is normally done only after receiving results of the USA national census that occurs every ten years. The new map has been drawn midway between censuses at the behest of Donald Trump, who told him to turn five more seats in the House of Representatives from Democratic to Republican.

The new election map is already up for challenge in the courts for its dilution of Black and Latino votes.
