Supreme Court Gives DOGE Access to Confidential Social Security Data

| 0

The Supreme Court gave Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” unlimited access to Social Security Administration data including Social Security numbers, medical and mental health records, and family court information.

The order was unsigned. It temporarily overturned two lower court rulings that blocked DOGE from accessing sensitive private SSA information. The Supreme Court sent the case back to the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals for a decision on the merits.

DOGE is a subset of a White House IT team, not a government department. Its operations are opaque. It has been widely reported to have taken copies of sensitive government data and sent them outside government, presumably to Musk’s computers. Temporary access to sensitive SSA data is all it needs. If the access is revoked later, damage will already have been done by allowing DOGE to copy and meddle with the data.
