State Department Fires 1353 Workers

The Department of State fired 1107 civil servants and 246 foreign service officers on assignment within the USA.

Notices said by 17:00 the workers would no longer be able to access their email, shared drives, and State Department headquarters in Washington, DC.

Current and former diplomats say these cuts will undercut USA influence in the world, and diminish the nation’s ability to counteract threats abroad.

Former coworkers, ambassadors, Congressional members and other people protested outside State Department headquarters and also expressed gratitude to and support for the fired workers.

PBS News shared a photo of a piece of paper taped to a bathroom mirror inside the State Department. It said, “Colleagues, if you remain: RESIST FASCISM. Remember the oath you vowed to uphold.”
