Senator Gets to Meet with Kilmar Abrego Garcia

With persistence and after drawing global public attention, Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) got to meet with Kilmar Abrego Garcia who is wrongfully imprisoned in El Salvador’s CECOT despite an immigration judge’s order never to send him to that country and the Supreme Court’s unanimous backing of a District Court’s ruling that he must be retrieved.

Van Hollen had initially been denied even a phone call with Abrego Garcia. DJT’s regime has persistently refused to report on his status, as required by court orders, except to say he is in CECOT. This was the first evidence that he is still alive.

Van Hollen posted to social media a photo of the visit, which El Salvador staged to look like a comfortable chat in a coffee shop. He did not post about Abrego Garcia’s condition. Van Hollen promised an update in that regard after getting back to the USA.

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele posted photos of the visit, mocking it in his social media account on X (formerly Twitter).
