Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s confirmation hearing began in the Senate Finance Committee for his nomination to be Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Republican Senators supported him. Democratic Senators peppered him with inquiries on multiple fronts.

He faced pointed questions about his position regarding vaccines, reversal of his stance on abortion to conform with Trump’s, his opposition to fluoride in drinking water and his stance about junk food, among other topics.

He struggled to answer questions about Medicare and Medicaid, making errors about Medicaid is funded and what proportion of people enrolled in Medicare have chosen Medicare Advantage. He suggested he would push to privatize both programs.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) said, “The receipts show that Mr. Kennedy has embraced conspiracy theories, quacks, and charlatans, especially when it comes to the safety and efficacy of vaccines. This is the profile of somebody who chases money and influence wherever they lead, even if that means the deaths of children and other vulnerable people.”
