Republicans added breathing room to their majority at 220-213 in the Congressional House with victories in two Florida special elections to fill seats vacated by Matt Gaetz and Michael Waltz.

The margins of victory were about 14 points, less than half the margin of victory in both districts in November 2024.

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis won against Gay Valimont in the 1st District to take the seat vacated by Matt Gaetz. State Senator Randy Fine won against Josh Weil in the 6th District to take the seat vacated by Michael Waltz when he was appointed National Security Adviser.
