Probationary Employees Fired from Department of the Interior

| 0

A day after the “Fork in the Road” “offer” expired, about 3400 mostly probationary employees were fired from the U.S. Forest Service and 2300 from elsewhere in the Department of the Interior.

The Department manages national parks and tribal affairs. It also oversees endangered species, conservation, and energy production on federal lands and waters.

National Park Service workers terminated were about 10% of the workforce. They included some who worked on wildfire prevention (but apparently not firefighters), timber production, watershed restoration, and road and trail maintenance. Public safety workers were not hit.

Other firings included 800 at the Bureau of Land Management and 400 at the Fish and Wildlife Service.

About 2700 additional workers accepted the “Fork in the Road” offer of “deferred resignation.”
