Pentagon Announces First 5400 of Up To 61,000 Firings

The Department of Defense announced it will fire 5400 probationary civilian federal employees next week, the first tranche of up to 61,000 jobs to be cut out of a civilian workforce of 764,000.

Hiring will also be frozen.

Probationary employees were hired or promoted within the past year and do not have full civil service protection.
