NASA Losing 20% of Workforce Through Deferred Resignation
NASA will lose 3870 of its employees through deferred resignation, reducing its workforce from about 18,000 to about 14,000 in cuts driven by Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency.”
This loss includes about 500 leaving through normal attrition.
DOGE is a subset of a White House IT team, not a government department.
Donald Trump’s regime proposed reducing NASA budget for fiscal year 2026 from nearly $25 billion to nearly $19 billion, down about 24%. Congress is considering keeping NASA’s budget close to its current level.
