More than 450 Fired CDC Workers Called Back In

| 0

The Department of Health and Human Services began to attempt to reinstate more than 450 employees who were mass-fired in April from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Reinstatements are almost 20% of the 2400 federal workers thrown out in April and included:

  • National Center for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, STD and Tuberculosis Prevention, 214
  • National Center for Environmental Health, 158
  • Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice, count unclear but may be almost completely reinstated
  • Office of the Director, 71
  • Global Health Center, 24

HHS did not explicitly say it was reinstating the workers. Instead, it said it was rescinding or revoking their termination notices.

Not all of the workers will actually return to their jobs. Some have taken new jobs, having been notified in writing that they were laid off, and some have relocated away from where their CDC work was.
