Major Law Firm Preemptively Capitulates to DJT

One of the largest law firms in the world, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, preemptively struck a deal with Donald Trump, capitulating in advance of being specifically targeted.

The firm heard that it was in the firing line for an executive order akin to the one against Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. Recently, Elon Musk targeted Skadden in his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), adding to the sense that Trump would act against the firm soon.

Perkins Coie was among the earliest law firms to be targeted. A federal court has ruled that the executive order against it is likely unconstitutional. Two other firms more recently targeted are fighting back in court: Jenner & Block, and WilmerHale.

To avoid being targeted by an executive order, Skadden sweetened the pot considerably over the $40 million in free legal services that Paul, Weiss gave to Trump in order to get the order against it lifted.

Shortly before announcing its deal with Trump, Skadden disabled the ability for its attorneys to send email to large internal distribution lists.

The firm promised $100 million worth of legal work at no charge and will fund fellowships for law school graduates on behalf of causes Trump supports. It will drop diversity, equity and inclusion policies.
