Mace Attempt to Censure Omar Fails in House of Representatives

A motion in the House of Representatives by Congressional Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) to censure Congressional Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was tabled by a vote of 214 to 213.

Mace’s motion sought to strip Omar of her assignments on the committees for Education and the Workforce, and Budget. The ostensible reason for censure was comments by Omar about Charlie Kirk, the far right founder of Turning Point USA who was killed by a sniper’s bullet during a public appearance last week in Utah.

Mace has previously advocated deporting Omar to Somalia where she was born. Omar became a USA citizen in 2000.

Congressional Representative Greg Casar (D-TX) quickly responded to Mace’s motion of censure with a motion to censure Congressional Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) in regard to allegations about his personal and professional conduct.

Mills was one of four Republicans to vote to table Mace’s motion, reputedly after learning that Casar would withdraw his motion against Mills if the motion against Omar failed.
