Key West Terminates ICE Cooperation Agreement

Key West City Commissioners voted 6-1 to end the cooperation agreement started 4 March 2025 by the police chief with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

According to Keys News, Commissioners also ordered the city manager and police chief not to start any new such agreements “until the courts have ruled on the obligations imposed on local governments.” However, the Commissioners the city’s police department will assist federal immigration agents when requested.

Every police chief in Florida has signed a “section 287(g) agreement” similar to what the Key West police chief signed. It deputizes local law enforcement to stop, question, and arrest people they suspect of being present in the USA unlawfully.
