Judge Blocks Arrests of Immigrants in Churches for Some Religious Groups

| 0

Federal District Judge Theodore Chuang ruled that Donald Trump’s policy allowing ICE to raid churches in their quest to round up immigrants may violate religious freedom, so it is blocked while a lawsuit about it is heard.

Chuang’s preliminary injunction applies only to plaintiffs in the lawsuit which include Quaker denominations in Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia; a Georgia-based network of Baptist churches; and a Sikh temple in California. The case is filed in Maryland.

Over two dozen other religious groups are pursuing a similar lawsuit in Washington state.
