ICE Leadership Shaken Up

Leadership of Immigration and Customs Enforcement was radically shaken up under pressure to capture and deport more and more immigrants.

  • Acting Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations Ken Genalo retired, but will continue to work for ICE as a special government employee.
  • Garrett Ripa, who has been Ganalo’s deputy, will return to his previous role in Floria.
  • Homeland Security Investigations Acting Executive Associate Director Robert Hammer, with two decades worth of operational knowledge and experience, will transition to another role within the agency. HSI is trained to investigate complex schemes that threaten national security, not do regular arrests for deportation, but has been getting used heavily for such arrests.
  • Marcos Charles will become the Acting Executive Associate Director of ERO, with Mellissa Harper as his Acting Deputy.
  • Derek Gordon will become Acting Executive Associate Director of HSI, with William “Bill” Walker as his Deputy.
  • Garrett Ripa will become Field Office Director for ERO Miami, Florida.
  • Tatum King will become HSI Acting Assistant Director of Domestic Operations.
  • Dawnisha Helland will become Acting Assistant Director of ERO’s Non-Detained Management Division.
  • Tom Giles will become Assistant Director for ERO Field Operations.
  • Charles Wall will head ICE’s Office of the Principal Legal Advisor.
  • Susan Cullen Dunbar will become Executive Associate Director of ICE’s Management and Administration Directorate.
