Hegseth Halts USA Weapons Aid to Ukraine a Third Time
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth halted weapons shipments from the USA to Ukraine a third time, on this occasion citing his baseless belief that Pentagon stocks of weapons were low.
When the halt came to light and Donald Trump was asked about it by reporters, he repeated Hegseth’s lie, saying “Biden emptied out our whole country, giving them weapons, and we have to make sure we have enough for ourselves.”
The withheld munitions included weapons needed to fend off Russia’s recent escalation in bombardment of Ukraine. Some of the shipment was already loaded on trucks in nearby European countries, ready to go, when Hegseth blocked delivery.
This third stoppage by Hegseth alone caught the State Department, Congress, Kyiv and allies in Europe by surprise again, as it did the first two times. Hegseth does not inform them, let alone coordinate with them. His interruption of weapons supply always serves as a gift to Russia.
