Hegseth Brought Wife to Sensitive Meetings with Foreign Officials

The Wall Street Journal broke the news that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has brought his wife Jennifer into at least two meetings with foreign officials in which sensitive information was discussed.

One meeting occurred in February 2025 at North Atlantic Treaty Organization headquarters in Brussels. It was the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, about 50 countries that coordinate supply of weapons and support to Ukraine. Confidential information is presented there.

The other meeting was at the Pentagon 6 March 2025 with the UK’s Secretary of Defence John Healy and Admiral Tony Radakin who leads the UK’s armed forces. It was the day after the US cut off its supply of intelligence information to Ukraine. Topics of discussion included that cutoff and military planning for the future.

Hegseth has also given his brother Phil Hegseth a Pentagon job as senior advisor to the Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security and liaison officer to the Department of Defense. Since 1967, it has been illegal for federal officials to hire, promote or recommend relatives for any civilian role under their control.
