Harvard Sues DJT Regime to Restart Terminated Funding

Harvard University filed a lawsuit against the wide-ranging attacks by Donald Trump’s regime, which attempt to replace academic independence with a forced overlay of his views.

Harvard had been in talks with the regime for a couple of weeks when it received email on letterhead signed by three federal officials demanding control over various aspects of the university’s operations.

Harvard refused.

The government then, in the span of a couple of days:

  • cancelled $2.2 billion in federal grants and $60 million in contracts
  • began planning at the Internal Revenue Service to revoke Harvard’s non-profit status under a direct order by Trump
  • threatened to revoke Harvard’s permission to host international students on F-1 visas
  • cancelled $2.7 million in funding for violence prevention

This lawsuit focuses on the initial funding revocations. It is against these federal agencies and their leaders:

  • Department of Health and Human Services
  • Department of Justice
  • Department of Education
  • Department of Energy
  • Department of Defense
  • General Services Administration
  • National Institutes of Health
  • National Science Foundation

It is parallel to a lawsuit filed earlier this month by the American Association of University Professors challenging the regime’s attack on Harvard’s funding.

The lawsuit asserts violation of the First Amendment, exceeding  legal authority under cover of addressing antisemitism and the “arbitrary and capricious nature” of demands made against the university.

The university’s filing says:

The government has not—and cannot—identify any rational connection between antisemitism concerns and the medical, scientific, technological, and other research it has frozen that aims to save American lives, foster American success, preserve American security, and maintain America’s position as a global leader in innovation.

Alan Garber, President of Harvard, said:

As opportunities to reduce the risk of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease are on the horizon, the government is slamming on the brakes. The victims will be future patients and their loved ones who will suffer the heartbreak of illnesses that might have been prevented or treated more effectively. Indiscriminately slashing medical, scientific, and technological research undermines the nation’s ability to save American lives, foster American success, and maintain America’s position as a global leader in innovation.
