French Space Researcher Detained and Barred for Opinions about DJT
News emerged that on 9 March 2025, a French space researcher on his way to a conference was detained, and his phone and computer confiscated before he was deported back to France.
Customs and Border Protection officers found messages on his phone and computer that criticized Donald Trump’s policies about sweeping cuts to scientific research.
Officers declared these “hate and conspiracy messages.” They detained the researcher and deported him back to France the next day. The FBI investigated and then dropped its investigation.
Deportation appears to be based solely on a negative opinion about Trump, not any expression of intention to cause harm to him.
