Former FBI Agent Who Joined Attack on Capitol is Now an Adviser in DOJ

Jared Lane Wise, a former FBI supervisory agent charged with joining the 6 January 2021 attack on the USA’s Capitol, is now an adviser to Department of Justice pardon attorney Ed Martin Jr. who directs the DOJ’s “weaponization working group.”

The working group pursues Donald Trump’s claims that the DOJ is biased against him and his allies.

Trump appointed Martin as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, but withdrew his nomination for that job on a lasting basis after Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) announced he opposed confirmation due to Martin’s support for the Capitol’s attackers.

According to an FBI affidavit, during the Capitol attack Wise shouted, “Kill ’em!” while attackers assaulted officers at the Capitol. He entered the building through the Senate wing door, raising his arms in triumph. About nine minutes later he exited the building.

After Trump was inaugurated, he promptly pardoned or commuted sentences of Capitol attackers and ordered dismissal of such cases that were still being processed. Wise’s case was dismissed before a verdict was reached.
