Federal Roundups Target Chicago

| 0

After a few days of hesitation after plans leaked and local authorities voiced resistance, federal officers began raids and round-ups of people in Chicago.

ICE now operates with a quota dictated by White House to ramp up from a few hundred arrest per day to 1500. Its field offices now have daily quotas of 75 arrests each.

Chicago was previously named as a primary target. Facing defiance from local officials, federal agents began elsewhere. Even in the earliest raids, detentions took some citizens including Native Americans and at least one military veteran in addition to immigrants.

For Chicago, instead of mainly Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the government sent agents from ICE, FBI, ATF, DEA, CBP and the US Marshals Service to perform “enhanced targeted operations.”
