Federal Agents and Troops Make Show of Force in LA’s MacArthur Park

About 90 federalized California National Guard troops and dozens of federal agents in full tactical gear deployed with over a dozen military vehicles, a tripod-mounted sniper rifle, mounted officers on horses, a Department of Homeland Security helicopter and embedded media camera operators to nearly empty MacArthur Park in Los Angeles around 10:30 local time.

It was apparently purely a show of force with Fox News cameras rolling in a neighborhood with a high proportion of immigrants among the population.

Children attending day camp at the park were quickly ushered indoors to shield them from having to see the display of force.

Federal officials said National Guard troops were involved to protect immigration officers from any potential hostile crowd. No immigration raid or detention appeared to occur. Homeless people in the park and charity workers attending to them were driven out at gunpoint by the federal sweep.

People used megaphones to alert people in the park. Other people ran down the street shouting warnings. Protesters gathered, screaming at the federal invasion to “get the f*** out.” Mayor Karen Bass arrived and spoke with federal officials, after which the invasion left.

Later, Border Patrol El Centro sector chief Gregory Bovino told Fox News,  “I don’t work for Karen Bass. Better get used to us now, cause this is going to be normal very soon. We will go anywhere, anytime we want in Los Angeles.”
