DOJ Voluntarily Drops Case Against Virginia’s Voter Purge

| 0

The Department of Justice voluntarily dropped its lawsuit against Virginia purge of voters which focused on naturalized citizens and other eligible voters shortly before the 2024 general election.

Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin’s program faced challenge in part because of its timing. The National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) prohibits states from systematic removal of voters from electoral rolls within 90 days of a federal election.

A federal judge appointed by Trump in his first term granted a preliminary injunction against the purge and the U.S. 4th Circuit Court upheld the injunction. Six days before the election, without explanation the Supreme Court let the purge go ahead.

Having the DOJ drop this lawsuit and a comparable one in Alabama, with prejudice so they cannot be revived, was urged by an author of Project 2025.
