DOGE Declares 11 Million Americans Dead in SSA Databases

Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” declared 11 million people dead in Social Security Administration information systems.

Musk called it a cleanup of SSA data.

Those declared dead include

  • 2.7 million recorded as 120 and 129 years old
  • 3.4 million recorded as 130 to 139
  • 4.4 million recorded as more than 140 years old

SSA automatically suspends benefits to anyone its systems record as 115 or older. However, the way it records age can make a person appear to be terribly old if SSA does not know their actual birthdate or has not entered it into the system, or has not entered their date of death.

Thousands of people have already come forward to prove their are alive after DOGE moved them to SSA’s Master Death File and cut off their benefits. When a living person is marked dead in this way, it stops their access to bank accounts, credit card accounts, loans, and causes a host of serious problems. Because of the flood of “living dead” needing to go through SSA’s cumbersome, time consuming, resource intensive process to mark them as alive again, on top of drastic firings of SSA personnel, now takes two to three times as long to get a move into the Master Death File undone.

DOGE is a subset of a White House IT team rather than a government department. Musk plans to cut back on his involvement in it around the time when this supposed cleanup is complete, so that any problems with it will need to be cleaned up by someone else.
