DOGE Decimation of Nuclear Safety Revealed

Reporters revealed the depth to which Elon Musk’s DOGE has decimated USA nuclear expertise and safety.

Exclusive deep investigation by the New York Times revealed that the National Nuclear Security Administration lost 27 federal employees in DOGE’s mass firings, and another 130 took a buyout offer. In six weeks, NNSA lost experts from nuclear materials transport, nuclear submarine reactor construction, and safety standards in manufacture of nuclear warheads. These included more than 27 engineers, 13 project analysts, 12 program or project managers, 6accountants, 5 physicists or other scientists, and various attorneys, compliance officers and technologists.

Loss of expertise among contractors is in addition to those figures.

The Energy Department says most of the staff lost did only administrative work. The NYT investigation found “that is not true for the bulk of people who took the buyout. Many who left held a top-secret security clearance, called Q, that gave them access to information about how nuclear weapons are designed, produced and used, officials said.”

Highly skilled specialists with security clearance are prime targets for foreign intelligence agency recruiting efforts such as those recently increased by Russia and China.

As with NASA’s mistake of laying off Apollo expertise while waiting for Space Shuttle funding to come through, even if the NNSA hires replacements, expertise needed to train them has been discarded by DOGE.
