DJT’s Birthday Military Parade Disappoints

The military parade Donald Trump insisted upon in Washington, DC for his birthday and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Army was disappointing at best.

Its start had to be moved up by half an hour due to forecasts of incoming thunderstorms. Tanks and troops marching poorly paraded in front of the grandstand. The expected crowd of 200,000 turned out to be less than 30,000. Cameras caught Trump looking glum and Secretary of State Marco Rubio yawning. Most Congressional Republicans did not attend. The parade’s public announcer frequently delivered advertising for sponsors between descriptions of units participating in the parade.

The parade is estimated to have cost about $45 million. Repairing damage done to the streets by heavy tanks is estimated to cost $100 million.

Meanwhile, Pope Leo filled White Sox Stadium in Chicago for his first major public appearance in the USA. At about 2100 locations around the USA, people marched and rallied at No Kings events against Trump’s policies, and for the Constitution and rule of law. No Kings events were intended to show that the USA does not have any king, monarch, dictator or emperor. Attendance was estimated at 5 to 6 million by mainstream media, which downplayed it. Alt National Park Service tallies put total attendance at 12.1 million. Either way, it was the largest one-day protest event in USA history.

Across the Atlantic, the UK’s King Charles attended Trooping the Colours in honor of his birthday. He wore a black armband to honor the deaths of people, many of them British, on an Air India flight that crashed during the week. His birthday parade was the only successful major event of the day worldwide celebrating a king.
