DJT Releases JFK Assassination Files Including Social Security Numbers of People Still Alive

| 0

While touring the Kennedy Center, Donald Trump ordered release of all files about the JFK assassination, unredacted, today (the day after his order).

Most of the files had already been released in the past, but with sensitive personally identifying information redacted. The White House knew before the files were released that doing so in unredacted form would place into the public domain such data as the Social Security numbers of individuals who took part in investigation of the assassination. Many of those people are still alive and some have risen to high level positions in or around government. They are all now highly exposed to such actions as identity theft or compromise of their financial accounts.

Belatedly, the National Archives was told to comb through released documents for personally sensitive items and the Social Security Administration was told to issue new numbers to living people whose numbers have been exposed. National Archives will offer creditor-monitoring services for affected people while they await new Social Security numbers.

Sensitive personal data about one of Trump’s former campaign attorneys, Joseph diGenova, was exposed. He announced plans to sue the National Archives and Records Administration for violation of privacy laws.

The Supreme Court gave Trump immunity for any crimes he commits that he claims occurred in the course of official duties. Liability can probably only go as far as the National Archives and not to him for ordering the disclosures.
