DJT Moves Mike Waltz from National Security Adviser to U.N. Ambassador Nominee

Donald Trump at long last addressed the problem of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz’ disastrous inclusion of a journalist in a Signal chat about a sensitive military strike by removing him from that position and nominating him to be Ambassador to the United Nations.

The chat that became public knowledge in March was joined by news that it was nowhere near the only occasion when Signal was used for sensitive  communications that are supposed to occur in secure government systems, and news that Waltz used Gmail for emails about official government business. All of this is certain to be discussed in Senate confirmation hearings for his nomination to become U.N. Ambassador.

This move appears intended to take some attention off compounding revelations of lax communications security by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. It is a peculiar reassignment. Waltz has no significant diplomatic experience. Waltz praised Trump lavishly in the most recent Cabinet meeting.

This leaves Marco Rubio with four large jobs: Secretary of State, Acting Archiviest of the USA, Acting Administration of the U.S. Agency for International Development, and Interim National Security Adviser.
