Donald Trump commuted the 2 to 37 year sentence Carlos Watson, co-founder of Ozy Media, was about to begin serving.

After the online media and events startup collapsed, Watson was convicted in summer 2024 on charges that included wire fraud conspiracy.

Prosecutors said Watson led a scheme to hoodwink investors and lenders with inflated revenue, deals or offers that were not finalized or didn’t even exist, and false signs of success for the company.

Watson claimed he sank all his assets into the startup. He claimed to have triple-mortgage his home and said his average salary toward the end of the company was $51,000.

After the verdict was delivered, Federal District Court Judge Eric Komitee said, “The quantum of dishonesty in this case is exceptional.”
