DJT Asks Congress to Defund Head Start and Heating Assistance
Donald Trump’s draft budget proposal for fiscal 2026 eliminates many programs, notably including Head Start and heating assistance.
Head Start supports school readiness, meals, developmental screenings and health care for about 800,000 young children in low income families. Firings in the Department of Health and Human Services have already led to the closure of about half a dozen Head Start field offices.
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program assists households that struggle to pay for heating and cooling.
These cuts are verified by Snopes as among the goals in Project 2025.
