DJT Announces Investigation and Possible Import Restrictions on Semiconductors and Electronics

Donald Trump announced an investigation into semiconductors and electronics with an eye toward restricting imports of those that are critical to national security for the USA.

The specific law he would use to do this is Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. Trump made his announcement through his social media outlet Truth Social, posting “We are taking a look at Semiconductors and the WHOLE ELECTRONICS SUPPLY CHAIN in the upcoming National Security Tariff Investigation.”

In an interview with ABC News, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the electronic tariff exemptions announced last Friday are temporary and will be replaced with new tariffs soon.

The new tariffs are speculated to be in the same neighborhood of Trump’s 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum.
