DHS Sends and Later Rescinds Notice to Some Ukrainians that They Must Leave the USA

The Department of Homeland Security sent email to many Ukrainians who are in the USA with temporary protected status, called parole, saying their parole was revoked and they must leave the USA. The next day, DHS rescinded the notice, saying it was a mistake.

The initial email on 3 April 2025 said “It is time for you to leave the United States” in a “notice of termination of parole.” The email gave them seven days before parole would be revoked and added “Do not attempt to remain in the United States — the federal government will find you.”

On 4 April 2025, DHS sent them a follow-up email which said the initial messages was “in error” and “no action will be taken,” as “the terms of your parole as originally issued remain unchanged at this time.”
