California Sues Against Tariffs in District Court

| 0

California filed a lawsuit in federal District Court asserting the tariffs Donald Trump has imposed are illegal.

Trump invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to borrow from Congress the power to set tariffs. The lawsuit asserts that IEEPA does not go so far as to allow the President to set tariffs unilaterally without at least consulting Congress and he has violated separation of powers by doing so.

California asked the court for an injunction against enforcement of the executive orders involved.
