CA Legal Disciplinary Board Affirms Disbarment Recommendation of John Eastman

A three judge panel of the California State Bar Court’s Review Department, which is effectively an appeals court, affirmed a lower court’s recommendation to disbar attorney John Eastman, who architected a legal strategy to keep former President Donald Trump despite losing the 2020 Presidential election.

Eastman currently cannot practice law in California. He was seeking to regain privileges to do so.

He was indicted in Georgia and Arizona for promoting an illegal plan to have then-Vice President Mike Pence overturn the results of the 2020 during certification of the election on 6 January 2021 by accepting electoral votes from slates of false electors for some states in place of those cast by actual electors.

His law license was suspended after a March 2024 court ruling against him in which a judge said the “scale and egregiousness of Eastman’s unethical actions” went far beyond those of an attorney for Richard Nixon in the Watergate era.

State Bar Court Judge Yvette D. Roland recommended Eastman be disbarred. He was nailed on 10 of 11 charges against him. He has been fighting against disbarment ever since.

California Supreme Court is the next place he could appeal.
