Bogus 911 Call Uses FDNY Response to Sneak ICE Transport Van Through Protest

Fire Department New York raced to respond to a bogus 911 call of someone stranded in an elevator at 26 Federal Plaza, a Lower Manhattan building where Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detain immigrants, and a white panel van raced out through the gap protesters opened for FDNY.

Police and the crowd of protesters and police at Broadway and Duane Streets opened a gap for FDNY. A security guard opened vehicle barricades that protect access too. When firefighters got inside, all elevators were working properly and the building manager knew nothing about an emergency call.

Eyewitnesses said a white panel van of a type ICE often uses to transport detainees dashed from the building’s underground garage and out through the opening the crowd had made for FDNY.
