Bipartisan Bill to Undo DJT’s Tariffs Fails in Senate

| 0

A bipartisan bill to undo the tariffs Donald Trump imposed on import from around the world failed in the Senate by a vote of 49-49.

The bill sought to terminate the national emergency declaration Trump used to impose tariffs with power Congress lends to the Presidency in an economic emergency.

Three Republicans joined Democrats voting for the measure:

  • Rand Paul (R-KY)
  • Susan Collins (R-ME)
  • Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) missed the vote. If Whitehouse had attended and cast his vote, the bill would have passed.
