Major law firms Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins, Shearman Sterling US, Simpson Thacher & Barlett, and Cadwalader became the latest to make deals with Donald Trump in an effort to avoid being punished by him.

Kirkland & Ellis LLP; Allen Overy Shearman Sterling US LLP; Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP; and Latham & Watkins LLP each agreed to provide $125 million in legal services at no charge for causes Trump likes.

They also agreed to wipe out their diversity, equity and inclusion practices, and promised not to withhold their services from certain groups and government officials Trump favors. In return, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will withdraw its demands for information about the firms’ hiring practices.

By some measures, Kirkland & Ellis and Latham & Watkins, in that order,  are the two largest law firms in the USA.

Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft made a similar deal, except the amount of free legal services it will provide is set at $100 million.
