All Staff at Institute of Museum and Library Services Placed on Leave

Elon Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” put the entire staff of the Institute of Museum and Library Services on administrative leave, which is likely to be a prelude to firing them.

DOGE is a subset of a White House IT team, not a government department.

IMLS awards the majority of federal funding to museums and libraries across the country in the form of grants and research funds. Last year these totaled $266 million.

It only has about 70 employees. The staff were notified by email they are on leave for 90 days after a “brief meeting between DOGE staff and IMLS leadership.” They must turn in government property and their email accounts have been disabled.
