ABA Sues Against Federal Intimidation of Law Firms and Lawyers

| 0

The American Bar Association filed a lawsuit against the federal government, asserting that ongoing unlawful government intimidation against law firms and lawyers is unconstitutional and block its continuation.

The suit is against the federal government, more than two dozen of its departments and agencies, and heads of those departments and agencies.

Donald Trump has, through executive orders, sanctions, letters, memos and public statements by himself and those who carry out his wishes, sought to harm some law firms and intimidate others. Such government actions coerce lawyers and law firms to drop clients, causes and policies Trump dislikes.

Trump’s relentless assault on the legal profession has harmed the justice system. It has restricted access to legal counsel for people and organizations Trump targets. Resistance against it has won reprieves only for the specific firms and people that sued to defend themselves. The intimidation campaign as a whole must end.
