21 Staffers Resign from U.S. Digital Service Under Which DOGE Operates

Twenty-one highly skilled federal civil servants resigned from U.S. Digital Services, under which Elon Musk’s DOGE operates. They refuse to apply their expertise to “dismantle critical public services” for DOGE.

Their joint resignation letter said they cannot uphold their oaths to the Constitution and the American people if they stay in their jobs.

USDS is a White House IT team created during Barack Obama’s Presidency and assigned to initiate software modernization after the troubled startup of healthcare.gov.

Donald Trump created the U.S. DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) Service Temporary Organization within USDS, not as a government department. It is scheduled to disband 4 July 2026, a deadline set by Elon Musk. Earlier in February 2025, about 40 were fired from USDS, leaving about 65. Today’s mass resignation took almost a third of the remaining staff.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul promptly and publicly invited the USDS staffers who resigned to apply for jobs with the state of New York.
