Department of Education Issues Ultimatum to Maine

The Department of Education announced the Maine Department of Education violates Title IX by allowing transgender youngsters to compete in accordance with their gender identity.

The Department of Education set a deadline of ten days for Maine to conform with Donald Trump’s declaration that Maine is wrong.

This comes from one of three departmental investigations Trump launched into Maine within hours after Governor Janet Mills stood up to him in public when he tried to bully her into changing state policies about transgender children against state law to fit his declaration. If Maine does not comply, federal funding to the state’s department of education will be cut.

The Department of Education slashed more than half of its Civil Rights Division 11 March 2025. Even when it was fully staffed, civil rights investigations often took months to years. This one lasted less than a month.
