The writing is grouped into categories:
I’ve been privileged to get to work in and with groups at the pinnacle of their fields a few times–at the Johnson Space Center, and then as a contractor or consultant in information technology and business. I’ve noticed that people who are the best in the world at what they do are not just intense about their profession. They are intense about their hobbies and outside interests, too.
The stereo system buff bought a $10,000 sound system (in the middle 1990s when that was a lot of money). Right away, he tore up and rebuilt the circuitry in the speakers. He said they weren’t good enough.
The people who had tropical fish didn’t just have an aquarium in the living room. They had hundreds of gallons in multiple tanks–several of which were reef tanks, quite an achievement.
The one who took up art made all her own dishes. They looked and felt like they must have come from an expensive line. She took up quilting and her work was chosen for inclusion in a book about quiltmaking. She took up SCUBA diving and dove off the coast of Galapagos.
The list goes on and on. You get the idea.
I like to read, and I like to write. The articles and essays you see here are a sampling of what I do for fun.
I leave it to you to decide whether I belonged with those intense groups of world class people who granted me the honor of working with them on some of their projects.
